Yellowstone

For our fourth destination of 2026 we are heading to
Yellowstone National Park!

The Facts

Located in Karnataka, India, the Bankapura Peacock Sanctuary is one of the few sanctuaries in the world dedicated exclusively to peacocks. Home to more than 1,000 Indian peafowl, the sanctuary is known for its thriving population of these magnificent birds, as well as its dry deciduous forest landscape and historic fort ruins that provide a unique backdrop for observing them in their natural habitat.

The Bags

The fabrics for this location were inspired by the iconic peacock feathers.   The graphic and iconic nature of the peacock feather is so recognizable and I thought it would be a wonderful way to nod to the plumage of this beautiful creatures in a graphic and colorful way.

Everyone received the Small Project Bag which measures 12 X 12 inches flat.  This bag is great for smaller projects like socks, hats, and baby items.

Our upgraded passengers receiving two bags, also received the D4 Project Bag.  This little bag is a great way to stitch on the go with the webbing handle allowing you to use it as a wrist bag while also letting you keep your yarn contained should you be stitching while stationary.  Measuring 9 inches on each side, this bag is great for single skein projects, socks, hats, and smaller projects.

The Yarn

We took our inspiration for this shipment's colorway from the stunning feathers of these magnificent birds!

Dyed up on Trinket - a bouncy 100% Superwash Merino Wool.  It is a 4 ply yarn with 328 yards per 100 gram skein. Trinket is our go to summer base!  Soft, squishy and lightweight it is a joy to work with and suitable for a variety of projects.

This blended, watercolor, variegated colorway is inspired by the peacocks and their fantastic feathers.  I started with a medium, emerald, true green.  From there I layered on blues, turquoises, deeper greens, and just a hint of gold.  Building this all up in careful layers captures the iridescence of the feathers!

I just love the blended, shimmering effect!  This will work up beautifully and randomly in either knit or crochet.

Because of this layering, random, watercolor dye technique these skeins won't pool or flash.  The random dye placement does mean that there is a wide range of difference between individual skeins.  Therefore it is recommended that you alternate skeins as you work as is best practice with all hand dyed yarn.

Yarn Pairing Suggestions:

For the pairings first I wanted to pull out that perfect green.  It isn't too yellow or too blue - just exactly right.  So I paired it with our truest green:

Endzone:

I also wanted to give you a true, solid neutral pairing.  I absolutely love our medium gray.

Inkwell:

Or if you want something bolder and more summery you can pull out those pops of gold and accentuate them.  How fun is this with Candlelight?

PATTERN SUGGESTIONS:

Knitting Pattern Suggestion:

Waffle Tee by KnitPurlGirl

TI chose this new-to-ravelry pattern because the lace detailing reminded me so much of peacock feathers!  How perfect would a peacock inspired sweater be in our colorway.  I also think the simplicity of the rest of the project would work well with our variegated colorway.

Sport weight is such a good weight for lighter summer projects!

Additional Knitting Pattern Suggestion:

The Ruffle Edit by Kaci Apple

I love the texture of this piece!  I think it would be so fun with the subtle variegation of Bankapura Peacock Sanctuary.  And the ruffle detail is just so cute!

Gansevoort Sweater by Kathleen Dames:

This colorway is worked up with narrow stripes of a variegated and a tonal colorway.  I think it would be amazing in Bankapura Peacock Sanctuary and Inkwell!

Crochet Pattern Suggestion:

Sivu Tee by Linda Skuja

For our crochet favoring members I also chose a sweater with detailing that reminded me of peacock feathers.  I just love how this yoke looks!  I think the texture of the body would be insanely pretty in our Bankapura Peacock Sanctuary colorway:

Additional Crochet Pattern Suggestion:

Queen of Gems by Ruth Nguyen

I think this is just such a pretty texture!  The openwork structure will be lovely for a quick shawl to throw on during a chilly summer evening.  With the bright peacock colorway I could see it being just the pop of color an outfit needs.

Bonus Crochet Pattern:

Raindrop Shawlette by Natalia Pleshko

This quick to work up pattern calls for a single skein of sport weight yarn with a fluffy merino for the accent around the edge.  I think that's such a unique and interesting detail!
