Peacock
For our third destination of 2026 we are heading to the
Bankapura Peacock Sanctuary!

Located in Karnataka, India, the Bankapura Peacock Sanctuary is one of the few sanctuaries in the world dedicated exclusively to peacocks. Home to more than 1,000 Indian peafowl, the sanctuary is known for its thriving population of these magnificent birds, as well as its dry deciduous forest landscape and historic fort ruins that provide a unique backdrop for observing them in their natural habitat.
We took our inspiration for this shipment's colorway from the stunning feathers of these magnificent birds!

Dyed up on Trinket - a bouncy 100% Superwash Merino Wool. It is a 4 ply yarn with 328 yards per 100 gram skein. Trinket is our go to summer base! Soft, squishy and lightweight it is a joy to work with and suitable for a variety of projects.

This blended, watercolor, variegated colorway is inspired by the peacocks and their fantastic feathers. I started with a medium, emerald, true green. From there I layered on blues, turquoises, deeper greens, and just a hint of gold. Building this all up in careful layers captures the iridescence of the feathers!

I just love the blended, shimmering effect! This will work up beautifully and randomly in either knit or crochet.

Because of this layering, random, watercolor dye technique these skeins won't pool or flash. The random dye placement does mean that there is a wide range of difference between individual skeins. Therefore it is recommended that you alternate skeins as you work as is best practice with all hand dyed yarn.

Yarn Pairing Suggestions:
For the pairings first I wanted to pull out that perfect green. It isn't too yellow or too blue - just exactly right. So I paired it with our truest green:

I also wanted to give you a true, solid neutral pairing. I absolutely love our medium gray.

Or if you want something bolder and more summery you can pull out those pops of gold and accentuate them. How fun is this with Candlelight?

PATTERN SUGGESTIONS:
Knitting Pattern Suggestion:
Waffle Tee by KnitPurlGirl
TI chose this new-to-ravelry pattern because the lace detailing reminded me so much of peacock feathers! How perfect would a peacock inspired sweater be in our colorway. I also think the simplicity of the rest of the project would work well with our variegated colorway.

Sport weight is such a good weight for lighter summer projects!

The Ruffle Edit by Kaci Apple

I love the texture of this piece! I think it would be so fun with the subtle variegation of Bankapura Peacock Sanctuary. And the ruffle detail is just so cute!

Raindrop Shawlette by Natalia Pleshko

This quick to work up pattern calls for a single skein of sport weight yarn with a fluffy merino for the accent around the edge. I think that's such a unique and interesting detail!
