Adelaide

For our second destination of 2026 we are heading to the
Adelaide Botanic Garden!

Located in South Australia, the Adelaide Botanic Garden is known for its internationally renowned rose garden, Australian native plant garden, historic glasshouses—including the striking Bicentennial Conservatory, and it's iconic wisteria arbor tunnel.

Dyed on First Class Silk - our fingering weight 80% Superwash Merino Wool / 20% Silk - 2 Ply - 400 yards per 100 gram skein.  This base is incredibly luxurious with an absolutely beautiful drape.  It has quickly become my favorite base that we offer and is the perfect lighter weight as we head into spring!  Plus I just love how the silk adds a sheen to the skeins and takes the dye beautifully:

Adelaide Botanic Garden Additional Skeins

This blended, watercolor, variegated colorway is inspired by the spring blooms in the gardens. Layers of pinks, greens, purples, and plum melt together to create a colorway that will work up beautifully!

To create this watercolor effect I started by dyeing the skeins a pale rose.  From there layers of plum, violet, deep rose, and green are poured randomly across the skeins.  The green is the last layer that I add - it starts as a brilliant true kelly color but once poured on top of the layers of purple mutes down to a blue/gray/green.  I love how color theory works!

Because of this layering, random, watercolor dye technique these skeins won't pool or flash.  The random dye placement does mean that there is a wide range of difference between individual skeins.  Therefore it is recommended that you alternate skeins as you work as is best practice with all hand dyed yarn.

Yarn Pairing Suggestions:

I usually try to keep the yarn pairing suggestions to two of our existing colorways.  I don't want to overwhelm anyone with too many choices!  However this month I just couldn't narrow it down.  There are 4 of our rich, jewel toned, semi-solids that work so well with Adelaide Botanic Garden!

From L to R:  Storm Clouds, Kale, Twilight, Heaven Above.

They are all just so good together!

All work wonderfully on their own with our club colorway, depending on what color story you want to create:

Kale (available here!)

Twilight (available here!)

Heaven Above (available here!)

Storm Clouds (available here!)

Or you can pair the in many different ways for infinite project possibilities.

You really can't go wrong!

Bonus Knitting Pattern Suggestion:

Spring Quartet by Anna Johanna

I think this adorable, lightweight cardigan would be so cute in our club colorway!  The lace pattern would show off the watercolor dye technique beautifully without competing with each other.

Crochet Pattern Suggestion:

Spring Leaf Shawlette by Karen Whooley

This shawl is worked from side to side - I love the leaf detail at the edge!  I think it has enough interest to show off our colorway well without competing with the watercolor dye technique.
